Hypermobility Syndromes
Hypermobility syndromes are conditions where joints and muscles allow more movement than what is typical. If you're stiff, this freedom of movement sounds great. But if you have conditions like systemic hypermobility or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), you have experienced the muscular and joint pain the comes along with the excessive mobility. Patients with hypermobility conditions need a physical therapist that is experienced with identifying restrictions in joints and fascia that will place an additional load on the painful area. Appropriate exercise is a key component to managing this condition to improve your ability to maintain neutral spine/joint position and gain the strength that will improve your function. We also understand the psychological, gastrointestinal and autoimmune influences hypermobility patients experience and will refer to appropriate professionals or work with your medical team as needed.
